Collection: butterfly orchids

The most well-known orchid species is the Phalaenopsis, also known as the Malaysian flower or butterfly orchid. Just imagine yourself in the deep rainforests of Southeast Asia, the air is stuffy and the humidity is very high. This is exactly where the butterfly orchid feels most at home. It grows as an epiphyte on other plants or trees and is protected from direct sunlight by their evergreen canopy of leaves. The roots absorb moisture from the air through their roots, which is why they are so thick and clearly different from other roots. Since the temperature in our living room rarely drops below 18°C, it feels particularly comfortable here and usually delights us with a splendor of flowers that lasts for several months. If you imagine the butterfly orchid in its natural habitat, you will certainly understand why it does not tolerate waterlogging or direct sunlight.
